Scholarship and Research

Scholarship and research within the Organizational Dynamics community focuses on organizational topics that have impact in the arts/humanities, social and physical sciences, and some professional disciplines including healthcare, education, law, and fine arts. Organizational Dynamics Affiliated Students, Faculty, and Visiting Scholars conduct research, teach, study, consult, and serve on panels with members of the academic or business community.

In February 2008, in honor of the 89th birthday of Professor Russell Ackoff, Distinguished Affiliate Faculty in Organizational Dynamics and Anheuser Busch Professor Emeritus of Management Science in the Wharton School, we established the Russell Lincoln Ackoff Systems Thinking Library and Archive:

Russell Lincoln Ackoff Systems Thinking Library and Archive

The library is used regularly for meetings, presentations, and holds Professor Ackoff’s academic books, papers, manuscripts, photos, as well as books written by students and colleagues who attribute thanks to him. In October 2008, Professor Ackoff was named Second Most Influ ential “Top 20th-Century Management Theorists” by Stefan Stern, weekly columnist on management for the “Business Life” section of Financial Times.

ODEN at Penn supports its faculty and scholars by convening conferences, publishing working papers, and promoting their scholarship. One area of current interest includes:

Reshaping the System of Survival for Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Also highly valued is the scholarship of Organizational Dynamics MS and MPhil degree candidates, all of whom must write a final Capstone paper, an electronic copy of which is published online in the Penn Digital Library
