Biography

Keith Hornbacher is Affiliated Faculty, Organizational Dynamics and the founder and principal consultant of Hornbacher Associates which specializes in providing project planning, control, and risk management services to clients in the pharmaceutical, health care, energy, and aerospace/defense business sectors in North America and Europe.

Early in his career, he was a combat pilot and instructor in the U.S. Marine Corps' A-6 Intruder. That experience provided necessary technical background for his first project risk management assignment to support upgrades of the U.S. air traffic management system. Subsequently, Mr. Hornbacher was vice president and managing consultant in the firm that pioneered Monte Carlo simulation of complex project risks. Among his signature achievements are leading teams of project risk analysts in assessing stealth aircraft technology and the cost/schedule risks of constructing off-shore oil drilling platforms. His project experience ranges from huge mega-projects to incubator-sized, innovative startups and demonstrates the scalability and portability of project risk management processes.

Mr. Hornbacher has been active in the Project Management Institute (PMI) for more than two decades and contributed to revisions of the Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK ® guide). He was a founding member of the Board of Directors, PMI's Health Care Project Management Specific Interest Group. He is a senior member of the Institue of Industrial Engineers (Minnesota Chapter), and a past director of the International Council on Systems Engineering and Minnesota Strategic Leadership Forum.

His academic degrees include a BS from Iowa State University and an MBA from Minnesota State University (Mankato).
