Biography

John H. Fielder is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Villanova University. His primary areas of interest are ethical, policy, and leadership issues that arise in actual case studies, particularly those involving sophisticated technology and complex organizational dynamics. He has written on the Bjork-Shiley artificial heart valve, the DC-10 aircraft, and a range of bioethical and health care issues. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology, where he writes a column, "Issues in Ethics." He works as a consultant for the Center for Devices and Radiological Health at the federal Food and Drug Administration, and for clients in industry and law. He presented testimony before the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the U.S. House of Representatives on the reuse of single-use medical devices. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
