Biography

Richard M. Bayney is President and Founder of Project & Portfolio Value Corporation (PPVC) a consulting company that provides Training Services in Project, Portfolio, Resource and Risk Management and delivers customized services in a focused spectrum of areas including Enterprise Resource and Portfolio Management and Strategic and Business Planning. From 2002 until 2008 he was Vice President, Decision Analysis and Portfolio Management at Johnson & Johnson's Pharmaceutical Research and Development (PRD) where he was responsible for: (a) decision analysis support of compound development teams for stage-gate decision-making in early and late clinical development; (b) risk assessment and portfolio impact analyses of licensing opportunities; (c) analytical and strategic project and portfolio support to therapeutic area centers of excellence; and (d) portfolio management support for PRD, from drug discovery to late clinical development.

Prior to his arrival at Johnson & Johnson PRD, he was Executive Director of Decision Analysis and Portfolio Management at Bristol-Myers Squibb; Head of Strategic Planning for the Biotechnology division of Bayer Corporation; and had spent 10 years in molecular biology research at Merck & Company and Bayer Corporation/A.G. during which time he authored/co-authored more than 20 reviewed papers on hepatic drug detoxification and Alzheimer's Disease. Among his scientific achievements, he is credited with co-cloning the Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) gene responsible for the pathology of Alzheimer's Disease as well as elucidating APP gene expression patterns in the brains of diseased victims. He spent 2 years on a foreign assignment as an international Project Manager in the area of cardiovascular diseases and was responsible for worldwide management of a marketed drug for coronary angiogram bypass graft surgery.

Dr. Bayney is a frequent speaker in the area of "Risk Analysis, Asset Evaluation, and Portfolio Management in Drug Development" for Parexel/Barnett International; Global Benchmarking Group; Strategic Research Institute; Center for Business Intelligence, Phacilitate R&D Leaders' Forum, Institute for International Research, Pharmaceutical Management Science Association; Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development; Med Ad News; Cambridge Healthtech Institute; EXL Pharma; Honeycomb Connect; and Decision Analysis Affinity Group. He is also an Advisory Board member to Cambridge Healthtech Institute. He holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from London University and an M.B.A. from Columbia University.
