Biography

Larry M. Starr is Director of Graduate Studies for the MS and MPhil degree programs in Organizational Dynamics. Prior to his appointments at Penn, he created and was the first director of the M.S. in Organizational Development and Leadership program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. For 16 years he was also adjunct professor of psychology and decision making at Villanova University, Villanova, PA. Concurrent with his academic roles (from 1976 to 2002), he was President and Chairman of the Board of Oxygenics, Inc. (Ardmore, PA); Director of Medical Education, Research and Development for SOS International, Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) and Complient Corporation (Solon, OH) now Cardiac Science Corporation; and Director of Research for Oxygen Therapy Institute (Livonia, MI).

While Dr. Starr's research primarily concerns systemic characteristics associated with planning for and responding to medical emergencies particularly involving non medical people in the workplace, his more than 130 publications and academic presentations are diverse including organization development and change, organization leadership, moral development, organization coaching, and a chapter on personality and chocolate in the book, Chocolate: Food of the Gods:

Born in Toronto, he received his B. A. (psychology) from University of Western Ontario, MS (experimental psychology) from Villanova University, and Ph.D. (social-industrial-organizational psychology) supported by a Canada Council Foundation Doctoral Fellowship based at the University of Windsor. During his graduate studies he was a research associate in insurance and finance at the American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, a clinical psychology intern at the Ontario Hospital at Cedar Springs, and an instructor of organizational behavior in the Department of Management at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
