Biography

Dr. Alan Barstow is Director of Academics and Outreach for Organizational Dynamics and Affiliated Faculty, Organizational Dynamics. Over the past 18 years at the University of Pennsylvania, has been a Faculty Research Associate in the Wharton School and an Affiliate Faculty in the Wharton Executive Education Program. He is also an Affiliate Faculty member for the doctoral program at The Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and president of Barstow & Associates, a consulting firm that engages executives and professionals in rethinking strategic goals and action, and in learning effective ways to produce change. In 1986, with Dr. Russell Ackoff, Dr. Barstow co-founded The Institute for Interactive Management (INTERACT) and until 1993 served on its Board of Directors. Dr. Barstow was a Fulbright Scholar and earned his Ph. D. in Anthropology from Columbia University.

In the summer of 2008, A Festschrift Honoring Alan Barstow was published. Compiled by Organizational Expert and Executive, Dr. Sharon Benjamin, and Dr. Michael J. Arena, Leadership Development Executive, Bank of America Corporation, the book includes contributions from, among others, Dr. Elizabeth Kamarck Minnich, professor and author of Transforming Knowledge; Dr. Glenda Eoyang, author of Coping with Chaos and Facilitating Organizational Change; Dr. Kate Spector, founder and consultant with First Light Enterprises; Dr. Laura Gardner, Director of the Master of Arts Administration Program at Winthrop University; and Dr. Michael Quinn Patton, author of Getting to Maybe and Utilization-Focused Evaluation.
