LogisticsClasses on the Penn CampusAll courses meet on the University of Pennsylvania campus in West Philadelphia. The University is conveniently located for using either public or personal transportation (see map). There are also convenient, local shuttle services to 30th Street Station. Organizational Dynamics classes meet in Fisher-Bennett Hall on the Southeast corner of 34th and Walnut Streets (diagonally across from the Program Office building) or in buildings close by. A secure, fee-based University parking garage is located between 37th and 38th Streets on Walnut St., and at the Sheraton Hotel located on 36th Street between Market and Chestnut Streets. Offered After WorkCourses are held Monday through Friday starting at 4:30 PM, 6:00 PM or 6:30 PM, and on Saturday mornings at 9:30 AM. Classes run 2 - 4 hours each week for 6, 8, 10 or 12 weeks. A light dinner is available between 5:00 and 6:30 PM. Monday through Friday and at 3:30 PM for students enrolled in earlier evening classes. Starting at 7:30 am, breakfast is provided for students enrolled in Saturday morning classes. Flexible, Full- or Part-Time StudiesTwelve course units (a class is valued at either 1 or 2 course units) are needed to earn the MSOD degree. Because each participant.s work and personal pressures vary, there is no required time to complete the Program. A small number of (full-time) students take 6 or more courses in a year. The majority of students study on a part-time basis by enrolling in 1 or 2 courses at a time, and there are frequently students who skip a semester or more and return to study when their schedules permit. The average time for degree completion is 4 years. ServicesAdvisingProgram staff, faculty, and fellow students are available to help a student learn more about the curriculum, courses, faculty, and degree obligations. Syllabi are available online each semester so that participants can get a more detailed understanding of each course, e.g., the readings, the objectives addressed, and the assignments. Every effort is made to help participants identify those courses they will find worthwhile, interesting, and that support their academic and professional growth. Writing AssistanceTo help participants who have been out of school for a long time and/or may not have written an academic paper in many years, a series of workshops are offered at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. These no-charge programs help a student deliver the kind of academic writing needed to succeed in the Program. Participants also have access to Penn's "Writing Across the University" (WATU) services. A student may schedule individual appointments whenever needed, whether it is to make the transition from business writing to academic writing, to critique a paper, to get specific assistance in solving writing problems identified by the faculty, or just for moral support. Penn Email AddressAll Organizational Dynamics Degree candidates will be given a Penn email address and account (issued through the Degree Program). Participants will need access to a computer for communication, class selection/registration, and, in some courses, for class email discussion and submitting papers. Students may forward Penn email to another email address, if preferred. The Penn email account enables participants to communicate with one another, faculty, and the Program office. It also gives full access to all of Penn's on-line library and news services. Return to Top |
