Flexible, Full- or Part-Time Studies
Twelve course units (a class is valued at .5, 1 or 2 course units) are needed to earn the MSOD degree. Either six or eight course units are needed to earn the MPhil degree. Full-time students must take at least 3 courses in fall and spring; summers are optional.
Because a part-time participant's professional and personal obligations vary, there is no required time to complete the MSOD degree but part-time students enrolling in 1 or 2 courses at a time and complete their degree in four years. Most MPhil students complete in two years. There are students from both degree programs who skip a semester or more and return to study when their schedules permit. A student who does not take at least 1 course in a year (3 consecutive semesters) must, in the fourth semester, take a course or pay a Master’s Continuation fee to remain active in the program.
